Gerald BaileyGerald was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in 1963. He was a partner in the firm of King Gerrard & Co, Pukekohe, from 1965 to 1971, when he joined Ron Evans to establish Evans Bailey & Co. Specialising initially in litigation work, Gerald later developed a substantial general practice. He retired from the partnership of Evans Bailey in 2004, when his part-time roles as Director of the University of Waikato Foundation and Chairman of Directors of WaikatoLink Limited, the University’s commercialisation company, made further inroads into his working time. He continues, however, to be a consultant to the firm, maintaining contacts with clients built up over nearly 40 years.

Gerald is married to Jenny and they have four children and eleven grandchildren. He was formerly the Chancellor of the University of Waikato and has been the holder of various offices, both locally and nationally, in the Anglican Church, being currently a Lay Canon. An avid cricket fan, he has been a board member of New Zealand Cricket, manager of New Zealand teams overseas tours and has had 30 years’ involvement with the Northern Districts Cricket Association, including terms as Chairman and President. He is now a Life Member. His other interests include tramping, sailing, skiing and playing contract bridge.
